Zip codes are codes associated with locations by postal services (therefore also called postal zip code).
Zip codes are used throughout the world, but they have different formats from one location to the other. In the United States, as well as some European States, a zip code is in the format of five numbers (for example, the code 21270 is Baltimore, Maryland and the French code 72200 is the city of Le Mans). Note that small variations of a code indicate a small distance between the two locations (for example, the French code 72220 is used for St.Gervais-en-Belin, near Le Mans).
In Canada, the format for a zip code is letter-number-letter-number-letter-number and is used for streets instead of cities; for example, Sherbrooke street in Montreal has the zip code H4B 1N6. Note that the H4B indicates the district and the 1N6 indicates Sherbrooke street.
There are several ways to find a us zip code, an usps zip code or any other zip code for that matter: simply use a zip code directory, a zip code database on the internet or consult zip code maps at your local post office.
