On the 4th of November, the United States of America wrote another page of their history. They proved one more time that anything is possible in the country of uncle Tom.
For the first time in presidential elections, an African-American was elected to the White House. Barack Obama, the senator of Illinois until last week, is from Kenyan and American descent. Born from an American mother and a Kenyan father 47 years ago, the Democratic candidate won with 364 electoral votes against 163 for his Republican opponent John McCain. It is also important to
notice that Barack Obama collected no less than 53% of all the popular votes, against 46% for John McCain.
The results of these elections were much awaited as an unprecedent participation of voters was already announcing the historical moment to be witnessed. The stage set for Obama acceptance speech was as impressive as his victory: about a million people gathered at Grant Park (Chicago, IL) in order to celebrate and listen to the natural born leader that President-elect Obama is. As a contrast, in Phoenix the night was less intense for the Replubican party, mainly marked by the way governor Palin, the vice-President candidate, was booed by the public
and designed responsible for the loss of President candidate John McCain. Many won't forget the prank telephone call just 3 days before the election, as well as the noises about her $150000 wardrobe and stylist services.
Nevertheless, John McCain speech was all about accepting his loss. He also mentioned that it would be in their
interest to work for the new presidential administration and asked his voters to support the President-elect,
because there is only one President for all the Americans. Barack Obama now faces many challenges and an incredible
pressure on his shoulders: ''Yes, We Can'' was his campaign slogan and he promised change to all his supporters. Results will have to be there in 4 years!!
