Well, let’s say first the obvious answer, to get rid of it: they look for company. All right... but not every lonely person looks for company. Some singles enjoy their loneliness, and there are some singles that even seek to be lonely. Some other singles, certainly the majority, go outside, into a bar, a into a pub, a ‘taverna’, and just watch people that passes by. Perhaps waiting for someone among those other lonely singles that have come to the same place looking for the same: some company that notices them, and that thinks it’ll be funny to meet some other lonely hearts.
As the Yes’ song ‘Owner of a lonely heart’ says: it is much better a lonely than a broken heart... Indeed, there are singles that say that bad experiences in past relationships have shown them that life’s quite short to be dedicated to love just one person, or worse: that love is just an illusion, a vague appearance, which disappears as time marches on. But there are still some ‘romantics’ that think love’s a phenomenon that occurs between two (or more) minds which share common thoughts and feelings and way of thinking, and those romantics believe as well that, given the circumstances, love could last forever.
