All of us grew up under pretty similar circumstances. As long as we can remember we were surrounded by toys. Playthings is what they were called & often if they amused us children, it was a tremendous break for our parents. That would depend on the toy however, as a noisy toy could cause our parents to have regrets. But our parents were very good & they rarely got between us & our toys!
To a youngster, toys represented our wealth & prosperity. Remember the kid across the street that had everything? I'm not saying he was spoiled but, boy, did he have a lot of great toys. Well, today, if you are lucky you can still find some of his & the other kid's toys too!
And once you start looking around at all the toys that are available from the 1950's, 60's, 70's, 80's, & even 1990's, you will be amazed before you are halfway through! Many great toys have survived the years & can still be enjoyed.
Whether it be an old electric train set or an original Chatty Cathy doll, most can still be found if we are willing to pay the price.
Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Superman, Batman, Disney, & all the characters that we grew up with, regardless of our ages, are still around. The pedal cars & toys that were not produced in large quantity will be difficult to locate. Fisher Price, Kenners, Mattel, & all those Hong Kong toys from the 1950's & 1960's, are waiting for avid treasure hunters to find them.
What a thrill when you finally do find that special toy! You may find yourself spending a few hours at night playing with that space toy. Or maybe it's a battery operated Corvettte Sting Ray, like the one you had when you were 8 years old! Rin Tin Tin, The Lone Ranger, & Gunsmoke can all cause that nostalgic reaction in us.
To be able to relive & recapture childhood thrills & joys at a later age in life, is a luxury & something that I wish everyone to experience. An old toy can spark & revigorate an old person like nothing else can. You want a special thrill, go out & pick up a piece of your childhood. And remember, shop around, check the thrift shops, garage sales, church sales, & local flea markets, cause Vintage Toys can be expensive.
And above all, have a good time!
