Nowadays, with personal video camera being more and more easy to use, many people are starting to wonder if they could do more than just transfer the entire tape to an old VHS or to a DVD.
Digital editing software have evolved to permit editing movies in a simple way. Although professional softwares for movie editing - such as AVID, Final Cut Pro, etc... - can be purchased, they do require a good knowledge for using them to thier full potential.
So where can an amateur editor, wishing to capture and edit what he has filmed on his last vacation, do ? The answer is simple : turn to more accessible software tools that can be purchased at almost any local computer store.
Such software programs as the Pinnacle Movie Box will easily allow the user to capture the footage from his camera and edit it easily using a USB adapter that can be easily installed by anyone.
But what should one look for in a capture software ? My answer : although someone might have the easiest capture software in the world, what will you be able to do with AFTER ? Will you be able to edit your footage - such as remove unwanted sections, add small transitions effects, etc... Will you be able to do any audio editing with it - such as add a soundtrack, lower or raise the sound of the video clip you selected ?
I suggest that before even going out to purchase a capture software you should : 1) bring your computers specifications with you (memory, CPU, hard drive, etc...); 2) think about what you want to do with the captured clip (capture and transfer directly or edit and add music and effects); and last, what format will you output everything (DVD, VHS, etc...).
Also, if someone would like to try the software programs, many companies have set up their website with trial download software which will allow you to test it out before spending money on it - this is good since nowadays many stores prevent the return of opened software boxes.
So don't be afraid to try and edit your home movies. Who knows, you may find a passion and convert to the world of editing movies all together.
