A tribe identifies itself in many ways, the most obvious being a shared language and customs. But we have also body markings or body art. Usually the art takes certain specific forms which all have meanings. Some are specific to women and others to men. Body art are often tatoo designs that run in the tribe or family. Tribal tattoo designs serve to identify its members and are very specific. A tribal tattoo is worn with pride both as an identifier and also a beauty accessory. In times of war tribal markings are useful in order to be identifier members of ones community. Among native american tribes and African tribes tattoos can also mark the passage from one stage of life to another for example form being single to married or childhood to adulthood. There are myriad numbers of designs for example a tribal dragon tattoos are often worn by men to signify bravery. Tattoos can be placed on various parts of the body. And tattoos do not belong to the fading tribal customs only. Tattoos are as popular as ever and some do copy designs. Among girls lower back tribal tattoos are still popular.
