It has been many places around the world. It's perfumed have graced Babylonia & the gardens of Persia & the Garden of Eden. The rose has always occupied a special place in our world & continues to today.
The rose was the sacred flower of Aphrodite & Venus. The Greek poetess, Sappho, referred to the rose as the "Queen of Flowers" back in 600 BC. The rose was a beautiful flower back then & obviously stood out amongst others. Homer referred to roses in his "Odyssey" & again in the "Iliad". A botanical account was written on roses by Theophrastus back in the 4th century BC. Roses have always intrigued people & they have always been so very beautiful.
The rose has been found on Asian coins that were created 4000 years ago. Many cultures have welcomed & adorned the rose & continue to do so. The Romans loved the rose & included it in as many public situations as possible. Rarely was there a military or public celebration without a large quantity of roses throughout. Rosewater, Rose wine, Rose candies, perfume, have all been side benefits from this wonderful flower we take so much for granted.
And today, a dozen roses sent to the one you love, still carries a lot of weight. A beautiful gift to show you care & even one rose given at the right time can do magic!
