When James 11 died, his son, James Edward, & his Grandson, Charles Edward, took up the cause of The Jacobites. They were known as the Old & Young Pretenders. James Edward proclaimed himself King James 111, unsuccessfully during the first uprising of The Jacobites. In 1745 his son led a rebellion trying to restore the crown to the Stuart line & again met with defeat.
They moved to France & James Edward was known as Chevalier St. George, & Charles became Bonnie Prince Charlie.
Prince Across the Water, was another known name used to describe this very special royalty & piece of history.
Bonnie Prince Charlie came to England against the advice of Louis X1V & his father. Said to have been a wife beater, his years were ended in Italy, a very sad ending to a very great beginning.
Prince James Edward made an unexpected arrival on Scottish soil after the rebellion had failed miserably. Two Scottish Lords, Earl Derwentwater & Viscount Kenmore-were beheaded! They had supported The Jacobites cause & for that reason were executed.
Museums have safeguarded much of this great history & preserved it for generations to come. The lineage & the geneology of the people of Britain, their ancestors, be they leaders or just common people, is incredible. The recorded victories & defeats & chronicled in great detail for centuries. Few countries can boast such history!
