The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was released in the US on December 25th, 2008. It was directed by David Fincher (Panic Room, Fight Club) and written by Eric Roth. The film has been nominated for 5 Golden Globes and numerous other accolades. It stars Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett who both deliver stellar performances.
The story is about a man who was born at the end of the first world war with a very peculiar condition. He is born “old”. Basically, Brad Pitt’s character, Benjamin Button, ages in reverse. AS he gets older, his body grows younger. Benjamin’s mother dies giving birth to him. His father, despite promising his wife that he would take care of Benjamin, tries to kill him by throwing him in the nearby river but is intercepted by a patrolmen. He opts, instead, to leave him on the steps of an old age home. Benjamin is then adopted an raised by one of the care-givers at the home named Dorothy Baker. As he grows up (and grows young...) His life takes twists and turns that take him all over world.
The special effects in this movie are STUNNING. The transformation of the characters as the age (an de-age) is groundbreaking in terms of “aging effects”. The story is wonderfully told and captivating. It is the type of movie that has you thinking about it days after. The tag line fittingly sums it up: Life isn’t measured in minutes, but in moments. Fans of “Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind” and “Big Fish” will thoroughly enjoy The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
