For the last four days the Taj Mahal hotel in Mumbai India has been the scene of death and fears as terrorist stormed the Hotel and began attacking patrons. They were mainly looking for foreign patrons from western countries but killed both Indian patrons and western ones.
Twice the Taj Mahal hotel was on fire. This attack is not only an affront on democracy but also an attack the cultural integrity of the Indian people; because the Taj Mahal after which this hotel is named after is an important part if Indian history.
Do you know the history of the Taj Mahal? If not read it here in brief. The Taj Mahal is considered one of the eight wonders of the world. It was built by an emperor Shah Jahan, in memory of his wife queen Mumtaz Mahal. It was built over a period of 22 years and used all marble and decorated with precious stones.
But the history of the Taj Mahal hotel is slightly different. It was built by Jamsetji Tata as a reaction to racism. He was a leading Indian businessman in the 19th century but could not mix with the whites in the other hotels so he decided to build the Taj Mahal hotel as a hotel that would welcome Indian and white clients alike. So it was at its birth a hotel of tolerance. Unfortunately it became the scene of hatred and killing this week because of the unfortunate events that occurred there this week.
