St Valentine's Day is celebrated in many different cultures around the world on February 14. On this date, lovers exchange notes to let the other know that they love him or her. Saint Valentine is named after two Christian martyrs named, of course, Valentine.
Saint Valentine day was brought in America during the 19th century by British settlers. In the 20th century, men giving roses or chocolate to women became a tradition. It is still in vogue today and St Valentine gifts include flowers, chocolate, jewels, poems, etc. Actually, anything that is made to please the beloved one can be a St Valentine gift.
St Valentines is also celebrated in Japan and Korean. There, it is mostly women that give candy, chocolate or flowers to people they like. It can be friends, lovers or colleagues at work. Similar celebrations exist in Brazil (the Dia dos Namorados), in Colombia and Mexico (the Dia del amor y la amistad) and, in Slovenia, St Valentines falls on March 12.
