Shirts are more than something we just put on to cover our upper body. A shirt can be a fashion statement, a comment on society and a way of showing who we are and how we feel today. Shirts are for dressing up in, slopping around in and everything in between. Have you ever noticed how changing your shirt can change not just your looks but your mood?
The three main considerations most people have when choosing a shirt are: its purpose, its fit, and its weight or warmth. In summer many of us enjoy wearing tee shirts for a casual look while in winter we move into sweatshirts for warmth.
Shirts come in a variety of materials and weights for comfort and looks. Most men will have a selection of business shirts in their wardrobe, if they work in an office. These are usually made from cotton or polyester for easier care. Men’s dress shirts can be either long or short sleeved and will often use more expensive materials for an extra classy look. As with any fashion item, while the basics of a shirt remain the same, buttons and sleeves, things like collars, cuffs and other stylish cuts change with the seasons.
One kind of shirt that really remains the same; apart from perhaps colour or pattern is the ever popular polo shirt. For both men and women a polo shirt has the ability to look casual yet dressy enough for most every day occasions. The polo shirt is also often used by companies as part of a uniform with a specially printed logo on it.
The tshirt is perhaps the most popular clothing item of all time. Nearly everyone has more than one! Many women like to dress up a plain tee shirt by wearing a feminine blouse over the top for a casual yet pretty look. Tee shirts are generally made of cotton, with organic cotton becoming the latest trend for those who want to spend a little more on their casual wear. Many people like to wear a funny t shirt to make a statement, and people all over the world read each other’s t shirts every day. Some printed tees may make a more serious statement. Many companies, schools, sporting or special events co-ordinators may buy in a lot of wholesale t shirts at very cheap prices then have them printed. This is a very common form of advertising.
What kind of shirt-wearer are you? Maybe it is time you went through your drawers or wardrobe and see how many shirts you haven’t worn for years, and maybe pull out an old favourite?
