With the cost of living constantly climbing, times are difficult, & it's not easy raising a family with a few children these days. We need all the help we can to maintain a good standard of living for our loved ones, so we try to do the best we can!
One of the things that I started doing a few years ago was Home Canning. Whether you have a backyard garden or just like save on special buys, Home Canning is for you!
And the rewards include healthier eating, more variety, cash savings, & importantly, having a good time.
There is the initial investment of buying the canning jars & the proper equipment needed. However, this investment will return many times over, once you start canning jars of jam, pickles, fresh fruits & vegetables, relishes, meat, poultry, the list is endless.
Let's face it! We all know how much a jar of jam is going to cost us at the supermarket. And the same thing goes for pickles, onions, etc. Once you see the amount of food that you can & the savings you can realize, it's hard to not want to can your own foods.
When tomatoes are $0.99 an lb. I go & buy 25 lbs. & start some canning. It's fun & I am saving money & that gives me the luxury of buying those expensive fruits & vegetables that I normally would not buy.
So you don't need a large garden operation, just be thrifty & watch the specials, & when something is dirt cheap, buy lots! Then go home & preserve it.
One thing I would recommend at the beginning is to try & find a good book on Home Canning. A great reference guide is always a good friend when trying something new! Plus it's full of ideas & suggestions & that means more true savings!
Saving money, Eating better, & having a Good Time is the profit you will realize once your Home Canning is in full operation!
