My first suitcase was a red, kind of plastic Samsonite. This is before the lighter weight nylon bags and cases became popular. I must have carried that thing around everywhere I traveled. After years of use and abuse, I got rid of it. But it was my first suitcase. I am sure that Samsonite luggage is the first piece of luggage for many people.
The Samsonite Corporation makes luggage with products ranging from large suitcases to small toiletry bags and briefcases. Started in 1910 in Denver, Colorado by Jesse Shwayder, the Samsonite company took its name from the biblical hero Samson. That should tell you how durable and strong a Samsonite suitcase is. They began using that trademark in 1941. A little known fact is that Samsonite made Legos from the 1960’s to the 1970’s until they sold the company to Danish inventors. Samsonite was actually started as the Shwayder Trunk Manufacturing Company which was the original company owned by Jesse Shwayder.
Samsonite acquired American Tourister luggage in 1993. Using an innovative ad campaign, Samsonite was able to capitalize on many American iconic figures and keep the company going. The Samsonite Black Label, a more recent addition to the company, offers a Samsonite backpack collection as well as a Samsonite garment bag collection. The Black Label still offers the durability of Samsonite with a more upscale feel to it. If you check out www.samsoniteblacklabel.com website, they are currently offering a 50% off sale on all of their items for back to school. They also offer a Samsonite briefcase collection that is practical and durable.
Samsonite now makes the Samsonite laptop case which is just as durable as its other products. The Black Label business and accessories section offers products that range in price from $50 U.S. Dollars upwards to $400 U.S. Dollars. They have Samsonite travel cases that are also practical and sensible. You definitely pay for the Samsonite brand, but any Samsonite case that you purchase will be well worth the money.
Enjoy your Samsonite luggage and happy travels!
