I recently retired & for once in my life have a little bit more time to do some of the things I have always wanted to do. Now I spend some time going to flea markets &, being a Collector, of junk & treasure, it's a lot of fun.
The other day I came across a table at the flea market & it was full of these new SLINKY TOYS, all kinds of colors, plastic & metal. That started me thinking of when I got my SLINKY & all the fun I had playing with it.
On TV, in black & white, they advertised SLINKY TOYS & showed a little boy bouncing it down a flight of stairs. I wanted to do that too & spent many hours attempting this. Finally I got that SLINKY down about 8 steps & I thought that was GREAT! I was a CHAMPION! I tied my SLINKY with a cord & pulled him around like a puppy dog everywhere I went. He did the corners pretty good & if he didn't, I just pulled harder, & he came around.
Richard James, a US Naval Officer, invented the SLINKY TOY & it was by accident. A spring fell off a table & the idea was born! Incredible!
A kid could do so many things with that wired up contraption known as the
SLINKY TOY. All that wire could really stretch out in the hands of a 6 year old. It was one of my favorite toys & I get goosebumps when I think about those great toys I used to play with back in the 1950's!
Today you can get a SLINKY TOY in lots of different colors & made in plastic too! More safety conscious now so some of the toys are changing a little, but a kid can still a lotta fun with a SLINKY TOY, plastic or metal!
