Renewable and do-able

Using renewable sources is not just a fad anymore, it is becoming a necessity. While many people have been deliberately looking for and using natural resources that are renewable for many years, they are now being made more obvious to us and more available. Green housing and living is becoming an increasingly easy option and most governments even offer incentives for using renewable energy sources.

Installing a solar water heater can save you hundreds of dollars a year in power bills and most governments in the western world are offering great discounts, as well as help and information for those choosing to install them. Solar water heating has been available for many years but it is only recently that incentives have been offered to help people make the shift to this form of water heating. The same applies for solar lighting.

While most governments are offering discounts for using either solar water heating or lighting as well as wind power, they are generally looking at the cost of installation from ready –made, professional sources. Many people are also finding that it is not so difficult to make your own solar powered system. These DIY kits are readily available online for a small cost. Using renewable alternative energy sources does not to be expensive and most people find the savings they make are well worth it.

For those who really can’t afford to make these changes it is still possible to save yourself money and reduce the carbon footprints by such simple methods as using energy efficient light bulbs and simply cutting down on energy consumption.

Using renewable sources such as bamboo and banana leaves for paper are also simple ways we can help preserve the earth as well as save money. Green building materials such as recycled steel and timbers are also growing in popularity. For energy efficiency using a combination of ‘green’ materials combined with effective lighting is paving the way for the future.

The typical coal or even hydro based power plant is rapidly being replaced by great wind farms. For some the change can’t seem to come fast enough while others don’t really care. Whatever your viewpoint the fact remains that the traditional sources we have used are even more rapidly being depleted. Put in this position, going renewable is the only real option we have.
