So the kids have convinced you to get a new dog or puppy. Good for you. Beside being a guardian for the home, he or she will also be a good compagnion.
But before your dog becomes a good compagnion, you will most likely what to get a bit of pet training in as soon as possible and, especially, house traine the dog - no need to have her locked in a room with newpapers for the next 10 or 12 years, right ?
So what is the best way to house train your puppy or dog ? Well, according to PetEducation.com, there are two simple rules that everyone should follow when house training a puppy or dog : 1) Don't punish a puppy or dog unless you catch them in the act - or else they won't know why they are being punish; and 2) Praise and reward your dog when they do it right - such as asking for the door, doing it outside, etc...
Now, once you have house trained your dog, the next logical setp is that you will want to give obedience training so that he listens when you call him, doesn't bark for nothing, walks alongside you, etc...
For this, I suggest that you either check out the Internet for tips on training so you can do it yourself. If you don't have the patience or prefer the traditional approach, check your local yellow pages for dog training schools available near you.
Remember that whatever kind of training you are doing, praise and rewards will go a long way with a puppy or dog when learning something new. Have fun with your new pet!
