Handmade pottery is a tradition found in every culture. It enables people to create practical and beautiful products with the use of natural elements. Here are some information about different types of pottery.

Clay pottery is made by putting soft clay on a spinning potters wheel and then, someone creates forms while turning the wheel. The excess clay is trimmed with small tools. Products made with clay are vases, bowls, casseroles, plates, mugs, frames, candle holders, jars, lamps, etc.

Native American pottery was mostly made by women. They spent hours mixing the clay with other things that they had found such as sand, seashells or plant materials. The techniques they used were sculptural modeling, press molding, coiling and paddling. Native American pottery consisted in functional objects, figurines, masks and ritual items.

Italian pottery items include dinnerware, pasta bowls, mugs, salad bowls, salt and pepper sets, urns, umbrella stands, water fonts, ceramic tile tables, and many other things.

The Talavera is the most known Mexican pottery. It resembles a vase and it is usually very colourful in order to attract the eye.

All the pottery products mentioned above can be bought on the Internet.
