Do you like polo shirts? Do you know that polo started out as being a tennis shirt, later to become a polo shirt used in the sport? It wasn´t until much later that it became a whole line of fashion.
The polo shirt was just a tennis shirt or a golf shirt. It is a T shaped shirt with a collar and two or three buttons. They also have two slits on the bottom of either side and some of them have optional pocket. They are usually made of knitted cloth made of cotton or synthetic fibers. Rene Lacoste was the inventor of this new tennis shirt. The previous ones were long sleeve shirts with ties. He started a new clothing line and called it Lacoste. When polo players became aware of the new Lacoste tennis shirt, they quickly adopted it, and thats how the tennis shirt became the lacoste polo shirts.
In 1967 Ralph lauren made the polo shirt a part of his line called polo. Thus the polo sport and polo jeans were invented. He even included lacost´s emblem, but changed it from a crocodile to a polo player. And thats how the polo line was invented and came to include everything from polo shoes, the long sleeve polo to the polo black cologne. Of course the line that Ralph Lauren came up with was somewhat dressier than lacost´s version. I´m sure everyone at the beverly hills polo club wears polo something or other...
