The environment and pollution are great concerns in our life. In fact, it affects our life because we have to reduce it in order to live in a healthier world. But, what causes environmental pollution?

Atmospheric pollution refers to the relase of chemicals and particules into the atmosphere. It includes carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, chlorofluorocarbons and nitrogen oxides, which are produced by car pollution and factory pollution. Air pollution control organisms want to maintain the air quality at an acceptable level by monitoring air quality, reducing air toxics, identifying polluting vehicles, informing the public, etc.

Water pollution is also another big problem. Contaminants include insecticides and pesticides, bacteria, food processing waste, chemical waste, fertilizers and heavy metals thrown into a body of water. Although the level of water pollution in the Great Lakes has decreased, it is still causing severe damage to the ecology. Water pollution ways of prevention are numerous. Using biodegreable products and not letting the water run without reason are two good ways of reducing water pollution. They may seem simple, but it is the simple things that makes the world a better place to live.

Howdy Neighbor. Mittal Steel...

Howdy Neighbor. Mittal Steel...

This photo was taken from someone's backyard in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland's West Side. Mittal Steel is Cuyahoga County's largest polluter and far from the county's largest philanthropist. It's pretty sad that a dying rust-belt city will let a company like this operate in such a maneer while neighbors suffer from asthma, lung cancer, and even emphysema.
