A physician, medical practitioner or medical doctor is one who practices medicine, and is involved in maintaining and restoring human health through diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. This knowledge is achieved by a medical doctor by taking training at a medical school. The primary goal of a medical doctor is to maintain health care by preventing and treating illness. They are trained in all areas of medicine; they can diagnose and treat the full range of problems people come to them with. They are at the center of your care, managing and guiding you through what can be a very confusing and fragmented for you.
The role of a physician is to examine patients, obtain medical histories, and order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests. They counsel patients on diet, hygiene, and preventive health care. They work in general hospital or in clinics. A Physician must be emotional stable and must possess the ability to make decisions in emergencies. Physicians are required to study throughout their career so that they are updated regarding the recent medical advances.
A physician should not be confused with a physician assistant. A physician assistant is a highly skilled health care professional who is licensed to practice medicine, provide patient evaluation, education, and health care services but only under the supervision of a licensed physician.
People who desire to become a physician must have a craving to serve patients, be self-motivated, and must be able to endure the pressures and long hours of medical education and practice.
