The Olympic games were started in ancient Greece, but were lost after the Roman Empire collapsed. Thank God, we have them again today. In fact we have both winter and summer Olympic games.
The Olympic games are 2 international multi sport events. One is the summer Olympic sport and the other is the winter Olympic games. Until 1992 they were held in the same year. Some people felt that for security purposes and to make things a little easier on the organizers, it would be best to divide them, and hold one every two years. So every two years we have the summer Olympics, and two years later the Winter Olympics. The most recent summer Olympics were the Athens 2004 games.
The ancient Olympic games were brought back in 1896 and since then they have evolved to include athletes from every nation in the world. Because of television and satellite systems they have also had an increase in supporters. This caused a need for special Olympic airways to transport athletes and supporters.
The 2006 winter Olympics were held in Turin. The 2008 summer Olympic games are to be held in Beijing and are planned to have 302 events in 28 sports, including my favourite the Olympic track and field. Hopefully we will get the Olympic gold medal.
