Obesity is becoming a society problem in America. More and more people are obese due to bad food choices and lack of exercise. It is important to find solutions to suppress it because obesity can leads to major sickness and to death in some cases.
First of all, the question we have to ask ourselves is: am I obese? Someone is considered obese when his/her BMI (Body Mass Index) is between 30 and 40. A BMI of 40 and plus indicates that the person is severely obese.
Childhood obesity in Canada has tripled in the past twenty years. Only 5% of children aged between 7 and 13 were obese in 1981. In 1996, 17% of the boys and 15% of the girls were obese. In Canada, school are starting to find solutions to prevent child obesity. For example, physical education classes last longer, fast food has been replaced by healthy food, etc. But, parents have to do something too. They have to teach their children to exercice more, to eat less and to eat healthy things such as fruits, vegetables, whole wheat bread, etc. Child obesity in Canada is definitely a problem that concerns us all and we all have to do something about it so that our kids can live a longer and healthier life. It is easy to show them how to eat properly and how to do exercise on a daily basis.
As for the adolescent obesity, there are 20% of teenagers aged between 12 and 17 that are considered obese. This is very dangerous for their health because they can develop heart diseases, diabetes, etc. Also, obese teenagers have more chance to become more overweight than they actually are when they become adults.
