Although it isn’t much of a serious health issue, having a severe case of acne can have a large impact in someone’s social life. It can be a huge source of emotional stress and low self-esteem. Studies show that 80% of people between the ages of twelve and forty-four suffer from at least a certain degree of acne trouble. Society’s worship of magazine cover models whose every blemish is “touched up” magically does not make things any easier.
Contrary to popular belief, Acne is not caused by uncleanliness, but rather, overactive oil glands. Other possible causes are premenstrual acne flair-ups, oral contraceptive side effects, stress, a high fat diet, allergies, hereditary dispositions, an over acid body, and drug abuse.
The skin is said to be our third kidney in the sense that it is responsible for the elimination of many toxins from our body. This means that poor skin elimination results in higher levels of bodily toxins (not to mention resulting kidney overexertion) which, in turn, can cause the skin to have trouble. Severe acne could be a signal that something is wrong with your blood chemistry so it is important to analyse your diet and other possible causes of the condition.
Here are some suggestions that can help reduce or eliminate acne troubles;
1. Exercise regularly to get your skin eliminating well.
2. Drink sufficient amounts of water-minimum 8 glasses a day.
3. Take Acidophilus supplements.
4. Cut out fats and sugars from your diet and eat high fiber foods.
5. Dab Tea Tree oil sparingly on your blemishes 2-3 times a day.
6. “Steam Sauna” your face with lavender and red clover essence.
7. Avoid make up as much as possible and keep your face as clean.
