Muscat is one of the largest as well as the capital city of Oman. It also seat of the government and the biggest city in Governorate of Muscat. In the year 2008 the urban population in Muscat was nearly 1,090,797. In the gulf of Oman Muscat is a significant port town and has always attracted many tradesmen both national and international and many settlers from Persia, Gujarat and Baluchistan. The infrastructural development has also been rapidly done in this city. And it is one of the major factors that have led to the increased vibrant economy as well as multi ethnic environment.
Muscat International airport officially known as Seeb international airport (ICAO- OOMS and IATA- MCT) is considered to be the major airport in Muscat. Other than this it is one of the major hubs for the nationwide mover Oman air. Presently the airport is being expand as well as modernized. The airport is ready to increase the passenger capacity to 12 million in its initial stages and later on to 48 million. In the year 2011 the initial stage for completion has been completion. On February 1 2008 the airport was changed from Seeb to Muscat International airport.
Development project for the Muscat international airport may include a new modern terminal as well as new runway that will handle new airbus. It will also include control tower with a good height, around 32 aerobridges, a new terminal for cargo and also additional 6000 car spaces. It will be fully advance airport after few years.
