1968 was a year of excitement for those of us who lived in Montreal. I was 17 years old & the excitement generated by Expo 67 was still peaking, then Mayor Drapeau decided to keep the exhibition & named it, Man And His World. Great! It would be here forever now!
The different countries donated their pavillions to the City of Montreal & Man and His World stayed open until 1981. It was as exciting as Expo 67 had been & so much to see!
I remember Prime Minister Trudeau came to the opening of Man and His World. So did Robert Charlebois, Ravi Shankar, Gilles Vigneault, Louis Armstrong, & many other fine musicians! It was party time all over again!
As the years went by, interest in Man and His World was dwindling & the City of Montreal decided to close it!
The other night I was going through my postcard collection & I came across some old color postcards of Man and His World. That sent goosebumps down my spine & I spent a few hours browsing my collection. The pavillions, the restaurants, & the good times spent wandering around, sometimes almost aimlessly.
Postcard collecting is a great & economical way to capture memories. It's like keeping a little bit of the past in the postcard binder! Works like magic for me & you can usually pick up some of these Man and His World postcards for 50 cents or $1 at your local flea market!
A lot of good things in life are pretty cheap & memories are one of them!
