Who would have known! At it's first apparition in the beginning of the 90's, internet wasn't supposed to grow that big. But, with the years, the technics and supports elaborated very fast and now in 2008 we're in the era where the downloading do it's piercing on the internet.
The entertainement industry's finally understood; impossible to beat the speed of internet. This way instead of fighting people who download illegaly, they thinked of offering the movies or the albums of the artists in legal uploading. Naturally, they understood this phenomenen too little to late.
Nowadays, more than 1.4 millions of files are downloaded every day. Mostly the illegal ones. But is it really illegality? Is it illegal to download a tv show who already played on the air the night before? Why would this be illegal since the show has already been on the air and seen by a handful of people? Specialised channels understood this and now are rediffusing tv shows directly in streaming on their internet sites. This is a good way too enlarge it's public.
On the music side, independant artists also started to offer their music freely on the web. It helps them to get known and having a bigger audience in their concerts. Even the well known band Radiohead offered their last album on the internet, sign that modern time are well arrived.
If you look at video games, those are a little further behind. In fact, it's more difficult to download games for the Playstation or the Xbox, because you need to bypass your game system to play those games, which can be risky.
