How does identity theft happen? There are many ways that identity theft can occurr. First of all, there is the chance that the victim was not careful. When does this happen? This can happen when you are in line at the grocery store and you take your time with your credit card. It can also occurr at the ATM machine or even from throwing your trash away. The truth is that there are many instances where identity theft can occurr. That is why you need to be extra careful!

One way to be extra careful is to be in the know. There are some identity theft software programs out there that can help you to make sure that you will not let this happen! Also, you can be vigilent when you are using or bank cards or credit cards in public places. One place that many people do not think of is their trash. Be sure to shred any type of banks statements, credit card statements or even documents with your social security number. By simply tearing it in two or just throwing it away, you are setting yourself up for trouble. Also, at hotels, try to cut up the key card when you have left. Why? Your credit card information is on it!
