An iceberg is a large amount of floating ice in the ocean.
It´s hard to imagine that two thirds of our word is made up of water and a large portion of that water is frozen solid. Most icebergs originate from the Greenland glaciers and are made of fresh water. Some of these icebergs could be dangerous to seafaring mariners because they shift from place to place and are not always located in the same place. Every iceberg is unique and only a small portion can be seen. Fascinating, no? That is the way most humans are as well. what a quirk of nature!
An iceberg is one of the beautiful but dangerous natural creations of God. They are majestic creations of ice, but can be oh so dangerous if you are on a ship. They are hills like white elephants and most of us have never seen one up close. We have only seen pictures of icebergs, but they are constantly in our minds, becuase in a way they are so similar to our way of being. How many people truly know us and, how much of ourselves to we keep hidden. That is the fascination we have with icebergs, otherwise why would we have pictures of them everywhere or why would we name products we create after them? Why would we name a great clothing line like iceberg clothing after an iceberg if we did not think icebergs to be somewhat mysterious? Just the comparison makes me want to buy a fascinating, mysterious pair of iceberg jeans!
As old as these icebergs are, I sometimes even wonder if some ancient civilization or even alien nation has hidden time capsules in one of these great majestic icebergs. Such is my fascination with icebergs that I wonder if iceberg lettuce was named because someone thought it was shaped like an iceberg.
I don´t think I am the only person fascinated with icebergs either. On a recent trip to Greenland I found sugarcoated iceberg shaped mints in our room!

Came across this icy feature while taking a look around up above Barker Hut after arriving late afternoon.
