The greatness of man comes from his ability to learn from his past. The history of mankind shows us that there was a time when people did not live in cities, but moved from place to place depending on where food was available.
As mankind learned to farm and raise animals they no longer needed to hunt for food, and so the great cities were founded, cities like that of ancient Greece, and ancient Rome. These were the greatest cities on earth for their time, cities like ancient Egypt became known for important feats like architecture, art and even the written word.
Unfortunately, children of today don't understand how important these ancient civilizations were to us, and how they have influenced our lives today. Some of the most popular inventions of today's technology are based or on ancient beliefs or on ancient scientific evidence or theology from these civilizations. Even the ancient Greek gods influence the literature of today.
It is so important for children to take an interest in learning the history of mankind and yet we have too much technology for them to take an interest in it.
Teachers have had to find interesting ways of grabbing their student’s interest in order to teach them about history. An example of this is a teacher who has instilled an interest in history from his students by recounting the intimate details of daily life during these ancient times. He tells children about those children's activities when there were no televisions, movies, or radio, no electricity or traffic lights, no refrigerators, air conditioners or cars. Even how there was no toilet paper and how they had to use a communal sponge that was rinsed out after use.
