Hearing loss or it also can be known deafness effects many people in today's world. Some people are born with hearing loss, some deal with hearing loss as an effect of aging and others get hearing loss by disease, accident, or some other form of injury or illness. Conductive hearing loss is when sound is not conducted properly through the outer ear, or middle ear. Sometimes it can be both ears. This can be a moderate or mild impairment but can lead to full deafness if not treated. Sesorineural hearing loss is hearing loss due to the insensitivity of the inner ear. This form of hearing loss can be mild to severe and can lead to total deafness. Unilateral hearing loss is hearing loss that affects basically one ear. People with this condition can usually hear better in one ear than the other. Noise induced hearing loss is generally caused by a loud noise or sound over time or it can happen suddenly. This is why if you are around loud products or machinery you should wear ear plugs. Sudden hearing loss can be caused by a severe injury or other such accident or loudness.

Some treatment for hearing loss includes surgery, hearing implants and different forms of therapy. There is also gene therapy but the FDA has not approved it as of yet and it is still being tested. If you have a child you may be concerned with hearing loss in children. You can discuss your concerns with your child's doctor and any other medical profession. Many doctor's offices test children at an early age to find out about hearing problems. This helps to find and treat any hearing loss that may occur.
