The world famous Gucci whose real name is The House of Gucci was established by Guccio Gucci in Florence Italy in 1906. They are considered to be on the most famous and prestigious brands in the fashion world today.
Gucci started out as a saddlery company and soon specialized in bags for horsemen. Soon they opened a boutique in Rome and became well known for their handbags and their designer shoes.
Their designer handbags are especially popular with women. After all if you own a Gucci bag you have a certain status.
But Gucci also specializes in other lines like designer clothing, and even designer furniture.
The entire line including the gucci clothing earned more than 7 billion dollars world wide in 2006.
They are well known for adding their signature to most of their products.
In the 1970's Gucci was about to declare bankruptcy so they came up with their accessory line. This included their jewelry designer line. This somewhat bolstered their sales and allowed the family to keep a majority interest in the company.
Gucci is now and for longer the biggest selling Italian brand in the world next to Christian Dior. Today Gucci is a part of the French conglomerate pinault pritemps Redoute. Today Gucci has approximately 425 stores worldwide, but they also wholesale their products through high-end department stores and franchisees.
