Grooming requirements differ from pet to pet. As a former groomer and breeder of dogs, I receive a lot of questions on what animals do and don't need to be groomed. Here is the quickest answer I have to the question, If you were outside rolling around in the yard would you need to brush and wash your hair?
Okay it may not be that easy but here are some quick tips. Yes cat grooming is needed for long haired cats and may help cut down on the sneezing in the house even if you are not allergic. Mobile pet grooming may be easier for cat owners since they don't have to be around a lot barking dogs before they are groomed.
Short hair dogs still need to be groomed but can be done at home. Go to the horse grooming section in your pet store and get a shedding blade, use this to get all the loose short hair with out scratching their skin and wash them once a month or so. This works really good Labs or Pointers.
For long haired dogs it is needed to take them to the dog groomer regularly and to also brush them at home every day to cut down on tangles. Go to the local pet store and in the dog grooming supplies area get a small brush and comb combo and use daily for a quick brush.
Most dog groomers will charge you more for aggressive dogs and some will not groom them at all, so if you have an aggressive dog bring a mobile dog grooming person may help your dog stay calm do to the stress of being around other dogs.
Now mens grooming is a whole other ball game!
