Give me a Great Dane anyday. I recently had a friend of mine call and tell me that she wants to get a Great Dane for her family but does not know where to get one with a good history for health and breeding. Well due to a lot of puppy mills and over breeding this is a good question to ask about many different breeds.
Living in an extremely cold environment, I was unable to find any Great Dane breeders in my immediate area since they are such short haired animals and there is still snow on the ground in July here. With this fact I turned to the internet to further my search. After typing in all different search words from Great Dane puppies for sale to Great Danes for sale and everything in between I started to get overwhelmed. So I called one of the Great Dane breeders that appeared, although they were several thousands of miles from where we are and did not have a litter of puppies available, she was full of great information. With this information we centered our search on a Great Dane rescue in a closer area to us.
Like I stated this is a dog for a friend of mine so with her family needs in mind, I called the rescue and asked if they had any adult dogs that would fit into her home that has 2 small children and a cat. To our wonderful surprise they had a 3 year old harlequin Great Dane that would be wonderful with both the kids and the cat. Not only did they take the dog to her and worked with her on some tips for Great Dane training, she saved money and more important a dogs life. You may not be looking for a Great Dane but these tips can be used with any breed.
