Realizing the alarming effects of global warming in many places of the world, environmentalists are calling for urgent measures to save the earth.
Environment scientists are agreed that the major cause of global warming is the emission of green house gases like carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide etc into the atmosphere. The power plants emit large amounts of carbon dioxide produced from burning of fossil fuels for the purpose of electricity generation. About twenty percent of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere comes from burning of gasoline in the automobile engines.
With the prospect of a third world war steadily receding, both politicians and scientists agree that the only other threat to planet earth is global warming.
The North Polar ice cap and all the mountain glaciers are already melting down. Nobel Laureate Al Gore, the former Vice- President of USA has warned that unless immediate remedial measures are taken, planet earth cannot be saved.
Many nations have started taking serious steps to minimize the rate of global warming. An international effort is the Kyoto agreement that has been entered into by various nations to reduce the emissions of green house gases. Several non- government organizations are also rigorously working to combat global warming.
Scientists world over are working day and night to reduce the hazardous effects of Global warming. But, as a responsible citizen of the world, we must not forget that it is our prime duty to save this world from alarming effects of Global warming and thus save earth.
