With increasing concern over global warming the world is continuing to investigate and utilise alternative energy sources. Geothermal energy has been used in some form since early Roman times, at least for heating. As solar power and wind energy become more and more widely used scientists are also continuing to improve the development of geothermal energy sources.
Geothermal energy is certainly a lot cleaner and more environmentally friendly than the use of fossil fuels, although it does release some greenhouse gases. For this reason, and for the fact that most geothermal energy plants need to be built on the edge of tectonic plates, a lot of people feel we should stop using geothermal energy and put more effort into further developing other renewable energy sources instead.
Solar power energy is one of the most popular forms being used. Aside from being totally renewable and clean, it is gaining popularity because it is relatively simple for the average home owner to install their own solar panels. Even so, most people who have solar power installed find they need to be conscious of ensuring energy efficiency in order to make real savings and avoid traditional uses of electricity.

Whatever our own personal views on what the most effective form of energy may be, one thing is certain, the conservation of energy is no longer just an ideal held by ‘greenies’, but a necessity we all have to think about if our world is to improve. Energy management begins with the individual at home. By staying aware and following the energy saving tips available we can all do our bit to reduce the strain that energy consumption takes on our planet.
