Back in the middle age or renaissance, the gardens of the commoners were basically pantries; vegetables to eat, herbs to heal. The gentry relied on landscape designers to recreate nature in the small enclosed space around their home. The nobility spent a lot of money to surround their castle with spectacular gardens that still amaze us today.
But things have changed, we all have our little flowery space these days, be it a small yard or a balcony. I firmly believe that there's a garden designer sleeping in all of us, but assuming we can't wake him up, we can always call on a good garden design software to get started.
The colors and textures we'll favor say much about what we are; usually a japanese garden design speaks of peace and tranquility, while a water garden design provides the perfect dreaming place for the hopelessly romantic.
Not everyone has the imagination or skills however, so the Web must come to the rescue. It's the ultimate resource, be it to find plans for extended flowerbeds, or garden designs for small yards.
Gardening is a hobby that grows on us and after a couple of years we find that it's no longer the ideas we lack, but the space. We'll go out of our way to find the unique garden ornament or piece of furniture, or the small garden pond design that will let us add texture without sacrificing any flowerbed.
It's alright though, so long as it is well thought, no garden is ever full enough.
