It's common knowledge, garage storage is a nasty habit that plagues most household. The home garage is, by definition, the final resting place of all those things we no longer need but load to part from.
Some years back, as my husband and I were growing older, we decided that building a garage would surely make our life easier. It may have been the worst decision we ever made... from the kids' old toys to the stationary bike I really had to have but never used, the most amazing stuff started to pile up in there, until the cars had to be left outside for lack of space.
Once every few years we roll up our sleeves and get ready for garage sales day... but then we're faced with heart breaking choices. It's like playing a monster garage game of our own, but instead of constructing cars, we build up arguments. I couldn't possibly part with that hippies style sweater I knitted ages ago... it holds so many memories. And my husband wouldn't let go of the old TV set, the one with the rabbit ears antenna... it would be like putting a piece of his youth for sale on the sidewalk, he says. Eventually most of the stuff stays where it was, and garage sales day passes unnoticed since we spent most of it digging into our memories.
Perhaps the solution is to browse the web for free garage plans and start building another one. Who knows, maybe this one the cars will have all to themselves.
