I picked up a book a few weeks ago. It was worn & torn with lots of staining & yellowing on the pages. The spine was ripped, and, really, it was falling apart. I opened the book & was surprised, actually shocked, to see the inside cover & 1st page appear as a glossy color pic of some very old lures & spoons. The kind my Father used when I was a little boy! And this set off a train of thought that lasted a little while!
Memories of my first fish, caught with a wooden pole. A Sunfish, & nobody wanted to eat it! I kept it in a bucket for a while & can't remember now what happened to it. The next one was a 10 lb., well alright, it was really about a 2 lb. Bass. And we ate it that night! I was a CHAMPION that day!
I think all young boys relish the time that they spend with their Father's. We would go fishing regularly & it was just incredible. Rarely did we come back without fish! Father's know all the good spots to catch a fish!
The Complete Book of Fresh-Water Fishing by Larry Koller dates back to 1954. All those black & white pictures just brought back more & more memories. The paper is well over 50 years old, but still it talks. I took the cover & the 1st page with all those lures & spoons & made a GREAT FRAME! This, I hang in my garage, with my few fishing trophies. I keep a lot of memories in my garage!
It proves one thing though, & that is simply, YOU CAN'T JUDGE A FISHING BOOK BY IT'S COVER!
