While it is true that fingers are some of our smallest appendages, without them we are transformed.
As though to give importance to these 'wee-est' of body parts with which we gesture powerfully, peacefully, or obscenely depending on the moment, we humans like to adorn them. And why shouldn't we?
Some people make finger puppets, and their individual fingers become the legs of some cute, colorful animal whose aim is to amuse and entice. Others take a more cosmetic approach, decorating their finger nails with polish, glitter, and other accessories. The finger puppet and the deluxe finger nail are only two of many avenues one can take to celebrate their oh-so-important fingers.
It is no surprise that when people are arrested their finger prints are taken. Not only can we give people messages with our fingers, and wage peace against war, but one lone finger holds the key to our DNA--to who we really are!
Moral of the story: never underestimate the power of one...finger. A mere thumb can get you clear across the country if you hold it high enough.
