Earthquake, Wow !!now that’s a really scary word for me! I have been smack dab in the middle of two of them and I truly hope I never have to go through another one. I’ve been through tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes and I think the worst is the earthquake. The strongest quake I’ve been in was the Mexico City earthquake of 1996. Since then I have learned a lot about earthquake safety. The truth is there is not much you can do during an earthquake. You’re not truly safe inside because the building can fall down on you and you’re not truly safe outside because an electrical line can come down. The safest place is in a small room such as a bathroom or closet, but you sure don’t have much time to get there. Outside is best if you can make sure there are no electrical lines. Stay away from elevators and try to avoid stairs. If you are in a car stay there, it’s probably the best place to be. I cannot imagine what people felt like in the earthquake of Sri Lanka, I believe it was even bigger on the Richter scale. So much loss, I don’t think anyone can even fathom the devastation until they’ve actually seen it for themselves. I know that the recent earthquakes in California would definitely have made me move from the state had I lived there. I truly don’t know how people dealt with this kind of devastation before like in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. My mother wants me to visit her but I am so frightened of another Los Angeles earthquake that I tell her to come visit me and I will pay for her flight. I definitely do not like natural disasters, especially earthquakes!
