Having lived most of my life in Montreal, I was 16 years old when Expo 67 was held, & I remember those times well.
It was a good time for Montrealers! And Canadians too! The City had been building this Island, Ile-Ste-Helene, for a few years & we watched it on TV all the time. Finally the fair opened in 1967. And it was GREAT! So many pavillions & so many different people all over the place. Montreal was welcoming the world!
I had a Buffalo Steak at the African pavillon & it too was GREAT! There was so much to do & with Montreal's brand new METRO system, it was so easy to move around.
EXPO 67 was on TV every night & everyone followed it in Montreal.
Some of the best Expo scenes can be found on old postcards. I have been collecting postcards for over 40 years & came across a few the other day. That set goosebumps up & down my spine & I "remembered when". The images are as clear today as they were over 40 years ago. As I gazed over my postcards & marvelled at all those pavillions & just how wonderful they looked in my album, I was really glad I opened that page.
Postcards can be bought very cheap at local flea markets & garage sales & are a great way to visit yesterday!
Expo 67 ended over 40 years ago yet the images will never die!
