First a mangrove swamp, seven thousand years ago; then a land of sand, when the ocean moved inland some 5000 years back, Dubai was first known to European merchants for its pearling industry. The city is now a pearl itself; and a unique destination for a holiday long to be remembered. Of course the name alone speaks of luxury, and yet, it is possible to find a cheap hotel in Dubai, as I discovered while browsing through booking .com, around $1 500 CD for a week stay, would you believe… no more expensive than in any jewel city of the world. And to get there? A simple click on asia.com shows that it’s possible to fly cheap to Dubai… with flights starting as low as $800 CD. I was amazed. Considering the air fare, one may even decide to go for a luxury Dubai hotel and live the dream to the fullest. Imagine, strolling across the Mall of Emirates, the largest shopping mall in the Middle East; or looking at the scenery from the top of the Burj Dubai, at the moment the tallest building in the world; and of course, taking first hand pictures of the famous Palm Island, that men’s ingenuity rose out of the sea…No doubt a once in a lifetime holiday worth saving for.
