Did dragons populate your childhood world as they did mine and my children’s?
Do you remember being a child and how you made up stories about dragons and their dragon force? My three-year-old son gets out his plastic spear and swishes it to and fro in the air declaring that he is going to protect me from the dragons.
In fables and stories the dragon is one of the most powerful creatures. Dragon tales and fables have been told about this mythological creature for centuries in all cultures not just European cultures. For example the Chinese dragon is considered to be a very lucky sign.
And yet Dragons are supposedly fiery beasts that spout fire from their mouth so why are they considered lucky. I guess it’s because Dragons are considered to be symbols of power and strength. They are a part of our creative and fantasy worlds. The art world seems to be fascinated by dragons. When surfing on the net you can find all kinds of dragon clip art or dragon pictures, I even saw a double dragon in there somewhere. There are entire web sites that are dedicated to dragon tales and dragon pics. There are tutorials on how to draw a dragon as explained by different artists. Many of these artists and writers have captured the essence of this fantasy like creature in their drawings and paintings. By viewing their work I can actually remember the dragon of my childhood.
