We’ve all had one at some point or another. Some have one most days. All though most of the symptoms are similar, the causes of headaches vary greatly. If you work in front of a computer all day, you may experience headaches from straining your eyes and from improper posture. Sore necks can cause stiffness that can lead to headaches. In more extreme cases, deviations in the C1 vertebrae can cause headaches to be a daily problem.
Dry and irritated sinuses can also be the culprit in some causes. Some women get headaches as a result of hormonal changes during their menstrual cycle. An overburdened liver can also cause headaches when it stagnates and does not detoxify the blood stream appropriately.
Vision troubles should be suspected if the headache pain is felt mostly at the back of the head and behind the eyes. Make sure to regularly check that your eyeglasses are adequate. People with sugar imbalances such as hypoglycaemia can also suffer from headaches as a result of their condition.
The fact that there are so many causes should make it obvious that the first step to treating a headache should be to identify the cause. Taking pharmaceuticals such as Tylenol and Advil can be very effective for pain relief but don’t forget that they are not cures! All they do is kill the messenger. Your body gives you the pain to warn you that something is wrong. Popping a pill will relieve the pain but don’t forget the message! Figure out why you are having it and take the appropriate treatment plans such as dietary changes, visits to an osteopath, getting a massage, and/or talking natural supplements for detoxification.
