Do you know how many mentally ill people are being held in detention centers all over the world? Even in the United States, the number one industrialized nation of the world there are more inmates that are mentally unstable than real criminals.
The human rights division of the united nations has stated that prisons now hold up to three times more patients with mental health problems like schizophrenia, depression and bi polar disorders than mental health hospitals themselves. many of these inmates are held in solitary confinement in the correctional facility, for lack of what to do with them. This doesn’t seem to be the correct thing to do. Is it correct to hold someone in solitary confinement with no social activity, when the person is ill? The statistics show that half the inmates in state prison have a mental health problem. County jail facilities appear to have the same problems. researchers are looking for answers as to what to do by accessing information from other countries like in australia. While conducting an inmate search researchers found that the United States ranks first among industrialized nations in violent deaths. The question is, of those that ae convicted how many of these inmates have mental health issues that are not treated.
