Working as a translator has definitely increased the number of dictionaries that I have added to my library. I not only have the standard Spanish to English dictionary but several versions of the same. Since some words are found in one dictionary that are not in another. I have added a few technical dictionaries one that specializes in medical terms, one in business terms and a legal dictionary. It seems like I have dedicated a whole bookshelf to these dictionaries, somehow I have even acquired and English to French dictionary and Italian English dictionary. Whenever I go to a bookstore before looking for a reading book I always peruse the dictionary section. Its just that I know how prepared I have to be. There is nothing like having the frustration of not being able to figure out what the translation of a certain expression or word is and having your project come to a standstill because of one word or expression, this especially happens when I am dealing with medical terminology. This is because medical terminology is very specific and if you make a mistake you can affect someone’s health. In the last 5 years I have started using the on line dictionary since it has gotten much better since its inception They even have forums now for certain expressions that are hard to translate. I especially like the websters online dictionary.
