Contraception is anything used to prevent the development of cells into a foetus and then a baby. Contraceptives exist in many forms; the most well known being the oral contraceptives. There are various types of birth control pills contain different levels of hormones and some taken over varying number of days. We have also the injectable contraceptives and the birth control patch that releases hormones through the skin into the bloodstream. Birth control for acne was later discovered as well as for severe menstrual cramps. Going off the birth control pill will usually allow a woman to get pregnant. Despite the usefulness that birth control has played there is still allot of debate concerning the side effects of these pills which may include heart disease, blood clotting, weight gain and headaches. Although birth control has been around for awhile the catholic church has never really accepted. But those in the women’s movement say the church has no business commenting on women’s’ reproductive health. The Catholic church advocates the us of natural family planning methods which are not really the effective plus being so disruptive to normal intimate life within a couple.
