I am a person who loves to garden but I hate to weed so I tend to not want to plant to much. Since I have a container herb garden in my kitchen, I was receptive to the idea when a friend told me about using it outside as well. It seems you can do a container vegetable garden in your garden or anywhere and cut down greatly on weeding, the fact I have probably on spent an hour all summer weeding so it works. After thinking this through I went and bought a book on container garden design and started building.
Once we built the container for the gardening vegetable out of 2x8s I could not believe I had not thought of this sooner, not only does it cut down on weeds but there is no bending over involved. I turned back to the book for ideas on container water garden ideas, they suggest running a drip system so you are watering the roots not the leaves. This idea not only saves water but is great for your tomatoes since they don't do well with the leaves getting wet. One other advantage is since there are a lot less weeds, organic container gardening is so much easier.
I then thought about my mother in law who lives in a small home with no area for a container gardening vegetables planter like mine, and I found some large plastic planters. I was lucky to also find some new container water gardens system that you fill from the bottom and water the roots, so even if she only went out once every other day, they will always have water. Now she has tomatoes, cucumbers and beans growing on her patio.
