Do you love the circus?
The circus is the most endearing form of family entertainment ever since the days of Pompey Rome. Today we have all kinds of circus from the traditional Barnum and Bailey circus to the French cirque du soliel.
The circus began in ancient Rome. And as in roman tradition featured wild and exciting athletes who fought to the death for freedom. There were spectacular chariot race and entertainment for the roman population.
The circus was forgotten during the dark ages but brought back by a British cavalryman Philip Astley but it took place in an amphitheatre. He introduced what we now know as the trapeze acts. Bailey began his circus endeavours in the 1800's. He was the one that started taking the show to villages in England. As they traveled from town to town they would pitch their camping tents and this is were the circus tent idea came from. Since then the circus has grown in innovation and creativity. The circus music, and the circus elephant have changed, but the audience remains the same. People everywhere still love the circus whether it’s the cirque du soleil or the Barnum and bailey circus. The circus is still a family favourite.
